Payne Heat Pump Costs, Reviews and Buying Guide

Several manufacturers produce heat pump in various categories. You will find brands which focus on high SEER and HSPF. On the other side, certain brands are reliable for less cost heating. If you live in moderate climate, one of recommended products is Payne. Knowing Payne heat pump prices helps to estimate what you will spend for installing and repairing this appliance at home.

The cost becomes the key issue when buying heat pump. As you know, energy consumption are on par with how much you need to pay. For Payne, the product is dedicated for daily basis installation or vacation home. Moderate climate means average weather in summer and winter. You will not experience harsh condition that pushes heat pump to work harder than usual.

In the next section, Payne heat pump reviews explore several aspects. The explanation starts from features, pros, cons, models, and price. After that, you will understand which heat pump that’s suitable with your own preference at home.

Features, Pros and Cons

Heat pump is similar to other products that consist of segmentation from low to higher model. The parent company that produces Payne also develops other brands called Carrier and Bryant. You are surely familiar with both names because they have the same prominent influence in heat pump market. However, both have different technology and features.

Payne is low cost product which focuses on effectiveness to deliver as much with low energy consumption. This objective is different from Carrier as premium brand. All models in Carrier lineups are dedicated to generate the best result. High SEER and top HSPF means your room becomes more reliable. With such amazing feature, Carrier has drawback that takes extra cost to produce due to advanced technology. For Bryant, some models have same technology with Payne and Carrier. This brand is for mid-market.

1. Two-step mode

Payne uses single and two-step mode for their heat pump. Single step is the most basic technology with less efficiency. On the other hand, this mode is better for long utilization. Energy consumption is in low level. As the result, you do not spend extra cost for electricity. Two-step mode is advanced version of previous one. It is common technology that’s available in major heat pump. Of course, Payne still considers this mode as the best one to generate heating and cooling in moderate climate.

2. Less noise and long warranty

Other features to consider are less noise and long warranty. Based on official information, Payne has decibel level between 74 and 76. This range is lower than 71 that most heat pump will be considered as the quietest at all. With this feature, you will not hear any sound when installing Payne at home. You do not need noise insulation while Payne is working around in your room.

For warranty, Payne provides up to 10 years support. This is not short term for heat pump utilization. Manufacturers know the capability and durability of Payne in average utilization. If you have issue before 10 years, ask the nearby dealer for maintenance.

One benefit for having Payne is interchangeable regarding spare parts. If certain parts of Carrier are broken, Payne and Bryant can help. Situation is similar to Payne when having maintenance and machinery issues. Mechanics will repair with existing spare parts from Carrier and Bryant as long as both use the same technology and mechanism.

Perfect heat pump to fulfill customer needs is utopia. Payne also has drawback that should be put into consideration. It is for moderate climate, which means you will experience unstable heating and cooling when harsh weather comes. Of course, people who live in extreme climate cannot rely on Payne. As alternative, Payne is suitable as secondary support or backup plan when primary heat pump is down.

The technology is not complex and Payne does not have precise control. You might get a little bit higher or lower heating that does not exactly in accurate level. This is not major issue in moderate weather. For solution, check each Payne model and read the technical specifications thoroughly. The best model will helps to overcome this situation.

Payne Model’s Review and Recommendation

It is time to explore Payne models one by one. Before going further, you should understand that most heat pump reviews would put efficiency and cost as the most important aspects to consider. Highest efficiency generates the best heating platform. For the cost, the advanced technology makes manufacturers put extra cost to spend. Two categories to consider are SEER and HSPF. You might be familiar with both terms because they are easy ways to indicate heat pump capability. SEER is number that represents heating capability and HSPF for cooling. More SEER means the heat pump can work efficiently, and the situation is similar to HSPF where higher number is better than the low one.

1. PH13NB

The lowest Payne model is PH13NB, and the product is discontinued. However, you can still find this one as secondhand product that’s still reliable. The product had SEER 13 and HSPF 8 with single-stage mechanism.

2. PH14NB and PH15NB

The new ones are PH14NB and PH15NB. From those names, you understand that 14 and 15 are SEER level. Both have moderate capability but much more reliable for daily utilization. For HSPF, they have 8.5 and 9.0 level respectively.

3. PH16NC

Another better option is PH16NC in SEER 16 and HSPF 9.0 with single-stage mode and 10-year warranty. The SEER is better than previous ones, and SEER 16 is considered as average level for heat pump. HSPF may not be much different but 9.0 is also average level. The best Payne model is PH16NA with SEER 17 and two-stage mode. This product is more advanced and HSPF is at top level, which you obtain at least 20.

Which one is the best for you? It is not simple question because heat pump involves several aspects before you purchase and install. If you live in America, you need to know which area you are belong to. The states are divided into several climate levels. Northern hemisphere is mostly cold area and southern region goes warmer.
Payne is better in area with relatively warm climate near to equatorial area. Some cities are located in high terrain and extreme desert that needs extra heating or cooling. For such purpose, Payne is still reliable as long as you do the maintenance properly.

Payne Heat Pump Prices by Model

Each model has different capabilities, and the price depends on what feature the devices have. More technology makes the price go higher and expensive. Based on the price, Payne model starts from the lowest one, which is PH14NB 14 SEER. As it mentioned above, the appliance with SEER 13 is no longer available. The lowest one is SEER 14, and this model has price at $1,470 for system, and $3,900 for installation.

For a little bit higher, you can choose PH15NG with SEER 15. The Price is affordable and you spend only $1,650 and $4,150 for system and installation respectively.

Another model is PH16NC with price $1,870 for system. The installation cost for this model is $4,470. From three models that have been explained, the price is not much significant. With extra cost, you can obtain better model than the lower one. The top model is PH16NA that capable to produce SEER 17. The price starts at $2,370 for system and $5,050 for installation.

The prices that have been listed above are usually for the base pricing model. For your information, heat pump is product that depends on market demand. Higher demand means you pay more because many people want the same products. On contrary, in certain period, the demand may low, and the price is lower, even dealer or stores offer the discount. Each dealer or seller put different price based on the regulation in local area. Some governments consider heat pump as the most basic appliance. In that case, the products receive tax support, and price is lower.

You should spend the cost for two things: system and installation. System means the product itself, and the installation is process for installing. The product is not much in term of price, but the installation is not in the same league. The cost for installation increases if the house or room needs extra support. For keeping the cost as low as possible, find the most experience mechanics because they know what to do.

Heat pump covers area in the specific size. Larger room needs big appliance or extra pumps. On the other side, smaller room is enough with small size heat pump. That’s why the size becomes important topic when decided which heat pump is the most suitable at all. Keep in mind the size also affects how much you spend. Bigger system needs extra money for installation, and vice versa to smaller one.

The smallest product has size 1.5 ton and reliable for up to 100 square feet. For the price, you should spend $1,120 and $3,150.

The cost for 2 ton and 2.5 tons are quite similar to lower one. You only spend extra $200 or $300 for the system. The installation needs extra cost between $300 and $500.
